Boston, Nov. 13, 2007 — Invention Machine, a leading provider of innovation software, today launched a podcast program called “Sustainable Innovation” to help companies better tackle innovation challenges and learn what global organizations are doing to sustain their product innovation process. The program will offer regular conversations with innovation architects and practitioners from Fortune 500 companies as well as pragmatic advice and best practices on mitigating risks and turning ‘innovation’ into a reliable tool for the enterprise.
The company today released the first episode of a three-part conversation between Invention Machine’s Chief Technology Officer Jim Todhunter and Vincent Lyons, vice president, Engineering & Technology for Leggett & Platt, where he leads the company’s innovation initiatives. Their first discussion focuses on dealing with innovation deployment challenges. Subsequent episodes will cover strategies for developing innovation as a value driving core competence, and how these strategies are being implemented at Leggett & Platt.
Lyons also will discuss the creation of Leggett & Platt’s Innovation Design Engineering Acceleration (IDEA) program that has helped the company create innovative products at an accelerated pace, including the world’s first semi-fold box spring. This revolutionary product is currently available through Leggett & Platt.
“Sustainable innovation is about generating and validating the right ideas the first time, especially since 70 percent of revenue-driving products are expected to become obsolete by 2012,” said Todhunter. “Invention Machine’s new podcast series is designed to help companies become more innovative, nimble and competitive while also showcasing best practices on revenue-driving strategies.”
The first part of the podcast, featuring Leggett & Platt, is available today as a download from Invention Machine’s web site, at http://www.inventionmachine.com/news-and-events/podcasts/. Listeners can also access it on Todhunter’s blog, Innovating to Win, where he provides regular insights and observations from the front lines on achieving a high-performance innovation organization. Finally, listeners can subscribe to the “Sustainable Innovation” podcast program to have subsequent episodes made available through their RSS readers.
