Boston, Nov. 27, 2007 — Invention Machine, a leading provider of innovation software, today released the next episode of its podcast series on “Sustainable Innovation” – a program designed to help companies better tackle innovation challenges and learn what global organizations are doing to sustain their product innovation processes. The segment made available today is the second part of a three-part conversation between Invention Machine Chief Technology Officer Jim Todhunter and Vincent Lyons, vice president, Engineering & Technology for Leggett & Platt, where he leads the company’s innovation initiatives.
This episode focuses on strategies for developing innovation as a value-driving core competency in today's competitive global climate. Todhunter and Lyons talk about creating a culture where innovation is a continuous process, not an individual task. Lyons demonstrates how support for sustainable innovation starts with the executives at Leggett & Platt, which in turn encourages employee partners at all levels to submit new product ideas continuously.
“In looking at organizations that have made the transition from accidental innovation to sustainable innovation, the formula for success boils down to three areas: people, process and communication,” said Todhunter. “Lyons shares extremely valuable information on Leggett & Platt’s approach in all three areas - approaches that any company can leverage and adapt to benefit their own organizations.”
This latest segment, as well as first part of the podcast series featuring Leggett & Platt, can be downloaded or played over the Web from Invention Machine’s Web site, at http://www.inventionmachine.com/news-and-events/podcasts/. Listeners also can access the segment on Todhunter’s blog, Innovating to Win, where he provides regular insights and observations from the front lines on achieving a high-performance innovation organization. Finally, listeners can subscribe to the “Sustainable Innovation” podcast program to have subsequent episodes made available through their RSS readers.
