Green Innovation Challenges and Opportunities

May 19, 2008 -- The Green movement has compelled companies to create programs and allocate budget towards green initiatives. Yet, a recent Aberdeen Group report states that most companies are unsure about where to begin or how to prioritize their investments. Fifty-eight percent of survey respondents said they are actively seeking advice and guidance from solution and service providers.
Delivering eco-friendly products to discovering food or fuel alternatives create numerous innovation challenges. For example, a snack food manufacturer looking to replace corn-oil should consider the impact on engineering, operations, supply chain, and the processing line. They may have to alter the product formula to avoid changing the flavor, texture, and aroma of the snack, as well as consider packaging changes and shipping options. Therefore, “Going Green” the right way requires a strong and sustainable innovation process so a company can consistently deliver green products and maintain profitability.
Executing on green programs is making companies think differently, from new product development requirements and alternative energy sources to effective emission and waste control. Hence, companies such as Eni, GE, Hexel, Hydro, Nestle, Shell, Sun Chemical and Veolia have adopted Invention Machine’s unique innovation technology to positively impact people, profit and planet.
At FiRe (Future in Review) CEO Mark Atkins of Invention Machine will discuss innovation challenges companies face today and how they could deliver sustainable products that positively impact a company’s bottom-line. Atkins will be speaking alongside other industry experts working on innovative initiatives. The panel will be moderated by Robert Anderson, director, Technology Transfer, Illinois Institute of Technology.
